Meditation 303 Demystification

It's a bit difficult to concentrate, there are many distractions as I use this space-time to jot a few notes. Good thing that I have ample cushion-time under my belt. Meditation can reinforce concentration, or so I think. But what I think may not be true.
So if you're reading this, sorry if it's sloppy and senseless, but you should be used to that if you've read any of my other blogs.
Why 303? Because I don't want a bunch of newbies in a discussion about meditation, only seasoned veterans of meditation. Nor do I want to hear from any "professional" meditators, teachers, preachers, authors about, or others who may have vested interests in the promotion of meditation.
Demystification? Yeah, I'm hoping to discourage or prevent inclusion of metaphysics into a future possible discussion. Maybe secular meditation would be a better description. Whatever...
My big question is, why, why meditate? Yeah, Yeah, I've read studies and summaries of 'em about all the physiological benefits and I'm not really interested in that either. So what am I looking for? I'm looking for the reflections of other seasoned lay-meditators about what makes meditation valuable. I'll start.
We are all familiar with the chattering-monkey-mind. We should all be familiar with learning to avoid giving too much attention to compulsive thought and instead, cultivating a peaceful mind.
Looks like I'm getting derailed...
