Holy Zodiacs, Zaadzman

Posted on Dec 19th, 2007 by elementstew : marshal elementstew
The sun is shining bright and warm, every ray a phallus and seed. Holy Sun, holy son, how I love our communion. Oh son of god that dances on the water and makes love to the Mother, oh Sun, I so welcome you.

I've been freezing my ass off in the cold, grey and wet last few weeks while the light of this world seems to be loosing the battle with the prince of darkness as the days grow short and the nights draw long. It seems that the Sun will have three last breaths before he lies still in the sky. I have faith though. Faith that the sun shall be reborn, heralded by three kings that form Orion's belt.

Thirteen-thousand years ago, another cold dark night came to an end, an ice age was over. Now you might think that's a good thing, and yeah it was, but shortly following, as chance or providence would have it, there began a thousand year drought. Long frickin drought, just our luck. Yet lucky we've been, blessed with great intelligence and opposable thumbs. It was long enough to make it habit for many to stay near the rivers in the fertile valleys. Farming became an institution and people began to settle not only themselves, but then the beasts as well.

It took another few thousand years or so before we developed written language. Until then we had to pass the sum total of humanity's knowledge through an oral tradition aided with some pictures, diagrams and buildings. Many of the stories and allogories crafted through milennia are lost to us today yet there remain traces buried by the weight of history.

I've started searching for the origins of zodiacs, but haven't had much luck so far. I'd imagine that having a decent calendar is essential for efficient farming, but I've never been a farmer. Farming is the foundation for our enourmous recent success and survival as a species, not to mention the whole business of civilization development. So I was thinking that zodiacs probably predate written language by a long shot and were representations that helped us to understand and convey some really important and meaningful knowledge that took untold generations to accumulate, so meaningful and important that they are sacred.

So I'm thinking that zodiacs are one of oldest and most elaborate sacred symbols. I have new reverence for zodiacs and I am saddened that it is used in heretical superstitous fashion by many and unnoticed or dismissed by others.
